The Thing From Beyond The Stars is a full-color, illustrated short story that I wrote to teach my children important moral lessons, such as taking responsibility for your actions; pursuing the right use of power; and the danger of conjuring up demons to destroy your enemies. The art is by the excellent Fabio Laguna, whose work has appeared in Marvel comics, Dark Horse comics, and others.

The Thing From Beyond The Stars is available in hardcover and as a download at Lulu.com. You can also experience it online, for free, below…

The bullies shoved Mikey and took his lunch money;
They laughed and they pointed;
They thought it was funny.
Inside his brain, Mikey felt something snap;
From this moment on, there was no going back…

Half-panting, half-praying, Mikey read from the dark book,
While his only friend David could do nothing but look.
The sky burned with emeralds as reality unfurled,
And a terrible evil roared into our world!

Its eyes blazed with rage and it sported a loincloth;
It was the Bringer of Chaos, the dread lord Yog-Soggoth.
With a scream of base pleasure, it went straight to its work;
Stomping the bullies, then razing the earth.

David begged Mikey, “Please make it go back!”
But Mikey just cackled, he laughed and he laughed.
Drowning in madness, David ran to a teacher,
And the wise man told him, “I’ll take care of that creature!”

The teacher’s spell casting sent the beast home,
But Yog-Soggoth roared, “I will not go alone!”
Tentacles shot forward, ensnaring Mikey’s arms,
Dragging the boy toward the stars and beyond.

Roiling with fever, David swung his axe down,
Cleaving the tentacles, spilling Mikey to the ground.
With Yog-Soggoth banished, David warned his best friend,
“I’ll cleave you in two if you ever try this again!”
