Priya is interviewing for a new job as a product manager.
The hiring manager Jordan looks down at his notes. “Okay, pretty standard question. What would you say is your biggest weakness?”
Priya doesn’t hesitate. “Discovery.”
Jordan is taken aback by her candor. “Really? Why do you say that?”
“Well… before I answer, can I ask what you’re hoping to learn from the question?”
Jordan pauses. “I guess I want to understand where you think you have room to grow.”
“Got it. And when you say ‘room to grow,’ are you thinking primarily about skills, behaviors, or experience?”
“Um… any of those.”
“Okay. And what would you do differently based on my answer?”
Jordan puts down his pen. “You sure like to ask questions.”
Priya makes a note. “Interesting.”
